- SCHOOL ROBS YOU OF YOUR POTENTIAL
It is easy for someone to think that in other to identify your Skills and Potential the right place to get this done is to obediently and strictly go through the school system. This is because courses of study are put in place where students pick areas of study and learn towards been a professional.
But let’s think twice; if you look at our school system what does it do? It is a place where they’ve already programmed what they want the individual to do, and as they’ve programmed what they want the individual to do, you go there and you are also programmed as well to suit whatever program that is already programmed in school. As a result of this the individual easily loses touch with his inner potential because you are not allowed to think outside the box but to submissively go by whatever orientation of academic study programmed by the school. In this case the individual becomes limited since they pick what school has to offer them, and this kills individualism, innovation and thinking ability of the individual.
According to Bertrand Russell a British philosopher, ‘men are born ignorant not stupid, they are made stupid by education’. This is because school docile people and deny most people the thinking ability to define their real value, their real inner potential but are slapped with certificates and professions which do not define us.
Theories have come out that; as a child, the human brain is like a plain sheet; is empty without content and that kind of state of mind is known as- ‘Tabular Rasa,’ so when you are a baby you automatically have that kind of state of brain because there is nothing on the brain, in this case the brain needs to be programmed or wired to enable it pick up interpretations of what life means in mind intuition. As a result of this when the child begins to grow up the systems around him, the kind of orientation he gets plays a major role in what he becomes in life.
If he grows up in an environment that promotes and encourages individualism, self-discovery and positivity to become an achiever and a great person, the child becomes that, if he finds himself in the school situation where acquiring certificates and picking up a school oriented profession is the goal, he achieves that and gets into job unfortunately leaving out his inner potential which has been exchanged with a profession.
One might think there is nothing wrong with this, but we lose sight of the fact that people who brought great change to the world are people who at some point in their lives had to drop out from school, the likes of Sir Richard Brandson, who founded the Virgin Group of companies in the 1970s, which controls more than 400 companies in various fields, Elon Musk who co-founded Teslar, Paypal and a great technology entrepreneur, Steve Jobs a great American business magnate and inventor through his efforts we have the Apple products, Bill Gates who also came up with Microsoft.
You can imagine that if these people had not dropped out of school to think outside the box, we wouldn’t have had most of the great inventions and changes they brought to the world.
2. SCHOOL MAKES THE INDIVIDUAL ROBOTIC
Right from the first day you step into school you become a human robot; every aspect of your stay there keeps and binds you with rules: do not dress this way! study this! move there! go there! you must pass an exam!.. I mean you know what I’m talking about, it expects everyone to behave in the same manner, and once you make a mistake, you are punished, you must always do the right thing to conform with everyone else. That is the situation one finds himself in in school, you dare not be different.
You are compelled to obediently memorize the same thing and produce the same results; what you are been taught is what you are compelled to memorize and pour out on paper for marking, and I find this to be dumb! because that is not learning, it is rather memorizing of facts, data and figures of which most students forget after exams or after school. As Albert Einstein put it, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school”
Is so pathetic because we all have different potentials, we all have different capabilities and now you put people together asking them to learn the same thing and produce the same results. Once you are not able to do that and you fail in exams, you are considered a failure which can demoralize the individual for life.
Learning actually takes place when the individual or group discovers something new by solving real life problems or situations, or learning by experience-Constructivism as propounded by Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, which is very necessary in this our 21st century world.
3. SCHOOL BRAINWASHES THE INDIVIDUAL INTO THINKING CERTIFICATE IS A MEASURE OF SUCCESS.
The orientation we get in school makes us think that certificate is a measure of success. You find a lot of these guys chasing after certificates and after acquiring them they get so arrogant because they think they are very ‘learned’ meanwhile those certificates are worthless, they are trash and not applicable in real world situations in the 21st century. The century has moved ahead of that; that is why some current crop of generational thinkers have become game changers and reasoned beyond that into registering their mark in the world.
These school products are also fixed minded and it is difficult to convince them to understand that the century has moved beyond mere certificates because robotically they have been programmed by school and always think they know it all, but in reality their brains are full of facts, figures, theories and data which are not relevant in this information age where it is about ideas, problem solving and innovation. The sad truth is that their true self (potential) which they could have discovered to make a change in the world has been dumped; it has been exchanged with ‘big’ ‘big’ certificates. Pathetically they become job lovers because the more they go to school, the more they stay in job with monthly salary which keeps them in the lower-middle class bracket or poorer, and eventually they go on pension and the certificates becomes worthless.
4. KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MONEY IS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOL
School does not teach people about the concept of money; that financial literacy one needs to understand money is missing in school. Financial literacy means that you understand what it means to work for money and what it means to let money work for you. It also means that one understands what it means to be Wealthy and what it means to be Rich. School teaches one side, thus, how to work for money, (active income) this is applicable with working in a job since school prepares people to move out to work in jobs. On the other hand letting money work for you, (passive income) mean that; you understand investment or owning of systems that allows you to use other people’s money or their time to work for you so as to keep you financially wealthy. A lot of people from school think that working in high paying job with high paying salary means you are financially braced. In this case they bind themselves to their jobs and do not understand what it means to create what is known as Assets that can make them wealthy, they spend their lifetime acquiring lots of liabilities without understanding creation of assets and stay glued to their jobs that make them robotically workaholics.
Sadly they go on pension without owning assets which can give them cash flow even in old age, but have to live a struggling live depending on benevolence of their children to provide them with their needs. Sad!
5. SCHOOL IS OUTDATED
School is not updating and has refused to understand that the era in which we are in now is the information age, but is still teaching people ideas of the industrial age. The demands of the industrial age and the demands of the information age are different. Most of the courses that students spend precious years studying in school are no more relevant in of the job markets, because most companies have upgraded and have integrated digitization and more modernized sophisticated technologies at the field of work which demands different skills instead of what we’ve studied in school. So a lot of school products obtain well decorated certificates which become useless at the long run.
This among other reasons explains why joblessness will continue to be an issue in the world. Most companies now prefer to pick persons with hard core expertise and up to date knowledge of acquired skills instead of ‘big’ decorated certificates.
SUMMARY
In the face of growing unemployment and a lot of people been laid off their jobs is a strong signal enough to draw people to the glaring fact that there is something wrong with the school system. Most companies are more advanced in technology and the onset of robots and A.I.s ready to take over the job space. The era we live in now is about Creating your own job and becoming entrepreneur. We’ve moved beyond the era of job and yet school is still preparing people for job. If nothing is done about this a huge job crises is looming.
wow this so impressive and educational
