JOBS THAT WILL DISAPPEAR SOON

Introduction

Many are dreaming and hoping to work in certain jobs, and even studying courses in school to work in those jobs, little did they know that sooner or later those jobs will be out of date, because the onset of the 21st century is causing a huge revolution on how work is done and disappointing most traditional jobs that are school oriented.

  • BANK TELLER & CASHIER JOB

Most banks are now relying on smart banking or mobile banking, and less people depend on cashiers for cash dispensing or withdrawals, some banks are even making it possible for people to deposit money through ATMs or even transfer directly through mobile banking apps to their bank accounts or mobile wallets. The cost of employing employees and paying them will not be worth it if banks can rely on smart banking like e-banking, and in actual fact we are witnessing banks gradually transitioning into e-banking something that started in developed countries and is now embraced gradually by banks in Africa.

In fact some people can be there the whole year and the number of times they probably visited the bank is very few, because at home with a touch of buttons one is able to do money transactions by wiring or sending to whatever account or whoever they need to transact money with. Gone are the days where people will have to queue for long hours inside the bank and sometimes even outside the bank premises just to pick their salaries or do transactions with the bank, but now banks are gradually going smart banking and relying on e-banking for transactions, currently lesser tellers or cashiers are needed, and with time it will be out of place entirely.

One other thing is the advent of Cryptocurrency which will further worsened the situation as currency shall go digital defeating the very existence of cash and subsequently services of banks. Of course it is only a matter of time before this becomes a mainstream reality.

Now when this happens lots of bankers will lose their jobs since fewer workers with technological orientation will be needed to work, also banks will not even see the need of establishing branches which could have employed many people.

  • SPORTS REFEREES

Is your dream to become a Sports Referee? football, netball, volleyball, etc., then you should rethink your decision as the road is blurry for you. A new technological system is to be put in place to handle refereeing jobs. FIFA is currently advocating for a technological system which will employ the technology of AI through video assisted refereeing to take over that role, with the intent to having an easier and fair refereeing devoid of human tendency of biasness. Good one there! I can remember at the 2010 World Cup Ghana against Uruguay and how Ghana missed out of the chance of tasting the finals as they believed there was biasness of the referee that robbed them of the opportunity.

  • Drivers

A lot of people are earning their income and living through their jobs as divers, either as commercial, public official’s drivers, or individuals who are wealthy enough and needs their service. People have to study courses or training in school to come out to be professional drivers. Now the sad news is that, technology is bringing on board self-driven cars which do not need any professional driver to man them. This we used to see in fictional movies but is now becoming a reality, they have been successfully tested. This means that there will be fewer errors on our roads since every movement is calculated automatically and programmed perfectly to handle unforeseen mistakes.  You can own a car or taxi which can be making daily sales for you without necessarily having to engage the services of a driver…looks strange right? but that is the new order we shall soon be experiencing.

  • Nursing and Medical Doctors

This is an area a lot of people will rightly argue that the human psychological and emotional factor is needed to relate with patients at the hospitals or homes, though this might be a sound argument, it does not rule out the fact that AIs, machines and robots can still performs tasks efficiently and safer. There is whole new technological robotic revolution going through testing in nursing procedures geared towards making work easier and efficient.

This new system with highly technological inventions incorporated with AIs shall be necessary in order to reduce human contact? Because Covid-19 shall further facilitate this inventions. There is currently what is known as da vinci surgical system which is a robotic surgical system made by the American company Intuitive Surgical. It is designed to make surgery easier and faster and usually controlled by a surgeon from a console. So in this case a doctor can be somewhere in the USA and perform a surgery on someone in a small town in Africa using the da vinci surgical system.

People might ask, what of if those robots make errors?

But the things is robots and AI technology actually does things with precision with less errors, a study from John Hopkins University shows that the third leading cause of death in the US in wrong misdiagnoses, because doctors easily prescribe or diagnose wrongly.

And all this is a result of human error. Just imagine a medical doctor or surgeon who is a specialist and mostly the field of their specialty is scarce in that case he’s still needed to work even at age 60-70 and at this age their dexterity and precision will be low.

But the question with whether nurses medical doctors will lose their jobs is still a matter of debate.

  • Pilot job

Go right now to the schools and ask kids, what do you want to be when you grow up? Among the chorus answers will be- ”I want to be a Pilot”!!!! not bad…, probably that is how their parents or teachers oriented them. But I’m afraid, this area of job shall also be thrown away by the revolution of hi-tech technological invention. A lot of people have not thought of this, and some will even be doubtful of it reality, but doubt it or believe it, this will soon become a practical reality. Airbus, the French Airplane manufacturer successfully completed a series of tests by using a self-flying A350-1000 XWB jet with not pilot to practice taxiing, takeoff and landing.

When this becomes a reality, the occurrence of human errors made by pilots that results in plane crushes shall be a thing of the past. Is just a matter of time before we see this take impetus.

Conclusion

There are lots of jobs that are likely to be lost with the onset of Covid-19. We should be ready to handle the technological revolution currently taking impetus. A dependence on school-skilled certificates shall be suicidal because the future is quite bleak for people with  this hope of mindset.
